MAKING YOUR OWN ROUTE

Want to lead a skate or pitch a new route? Build it with these guidelines in mind:

Start and end at the Long Center. Every Monday route begins and ends at the Long Center / Auditorium Shores — no exceptions. It's our home base, and everyone's car (and post-skate hangout) is there.  If you have a route that does not start there, see if Wednesday Night is a fit, or get a group together in our Day Skate Whatsapp group!

Keep it between 7 and 16 miles. It's a school night. Shorter than 7 miles and it's not worth the drive in; longer than 16 and folks with a long drive home are out past their limit.

Make it skate-able for an intermediate skater. Smooth-enough pavement (we can skate some fairly rough stuff when we have to), manageable traffic, and no mandatory tricks to survive a section. The existing routes on this page are the bar — if your route is rougher or more technical than these, consider reworking it, or ask for a route leader to accompany you to work out the rough spots.

Mind the hills. Steep descents should have room to roll out at the bottom whenever possible. If a descent ends in a turn, intersection, or rough pavement, plan to call it out in the pre-skate briefing or at a break before the group hits it.  Hand signals go a long way as well mid-hill.

Got a route? Map it on On The Go Map and share it with the group in our Route Leaders Whatsapp.
